2017 CROSS-COUNTRY ROAD TRIP - RANDOM PHOTO - ON THE ROAD

On the way from Lubbock, Texas to Santa Fee, New Mexico.

A lucky shot taken as we were flying along at 75 mph - yes that was the speed limit along those long stretches of road in Texas, and still we were being overtaken.  I was, just in case anyone is wondering about our safety even further, in the passenger seat.  We had been seeing thousands and thousands (no exaggeration) of turbine windmills filling the skyline.  When this one turned up I quickly grabbed my iPAD, rolled down the window and hung onto it for dear life, and this is the result.  The old windmill was still working.

Lucky shot indeed - but a great eye too.

  2. Considering how you were flying along, the picture is perfect, clear and sharp! We never see these here, except in someone's yard as a decoration.

  4. I lived in Amarillo, Texas as a child, and one of those windmills powered the well that watered out ponies. Why use an engine when one has more than enough wind? And the wind in the Texas panhandle is always blowing.

  12. Hooray for the old windmill!!!

Personally, I detest those wind turbines. Read a while ago, that they are a "green" scam.

    Stay safe...

  14. Hi Denise and what an eventful and interesting trip you are having, wonderful to get an image of one of the old style windmills, not these modern enormous take over the landscape versions. All the best, John

  17. Great shot. I love windmills. In Texas 75 is kind of a minimum. It is actually fast enough for me.
